Explore Mortality and Live with Intention Through Life Stories
Writing about your past + contemplating your future mortality = a thoroughly examined life.
Join me for an online, beginner-friendly memoir-writing experience.
If you’re reading this, you likely want to live an authentic, intentional life – and you’re willing to peer into the stories of your past to uncover and integrate the lessons buried within your memory.
Not to mention, if you’re a death-curious person subscribed to this death doula Substack, you’ve heard me ramble on and on about death being an empowering invitation to live life…..but…what the heck does that mean, exactly?
What does it mean to savor a moment? To welcome grief as a gateway for a deeper outpouring of love? To be “mindful” among your ten thousand to-do list items in a society that moves too fast? Maybe you’re curious to learn how to apply these ideas and more to YOUR unique circumstances.
Maybe you have a story or two (or four or ten) inside you that wants to emerge…but you don’t know where to begin. (Although yes, I’m aware that many of you subscribers are incredible writers already!!)
But for those of you who may subscribe simply to read and not write… do you think you don't have anything worth writing about? And yet you sense there's SOMETHING yearning to be expressed?
If any of this rings true for you, then I am thrilled to announce the open enrollment period for my legacy writing course, taught online through the Story Circle. In this 6-week, small cohort class, we will explore the stories of your past and grow your creative writing skills - all while gently contemplating how death might be asking you to Live.
Together, we will delve into the stories of your past to share and process the lessons you’ve learned in a safe and supportive environment.
I offer a structured, welcoming place to examine living, dying, and writing about it all.
The Writing Your Numbered Days class is crafted to guide you in birthing your stories while exploring death’s profound call to live your beautiful life.
By the end of our time together, you will walk away with 10-12 pages of your life stories, that, in the telling, have helped you process your past, gain self-awareness, and unearth wisdom for moving forward. You will share these stories aloud with your fellow classmates, where you will be deeply witnessed and held.
You will also walk away knowing how contemplating your mortality helps you live more fully and authentically into today.
What we’re doing:
Meeting once a week for 6 weeks, Thursday evenings at 5:30-7pm Mountain Time, from May 22 - June 26. To honor privacy and safety, these meetings will not be recorded, so attendance is required.
Class time will consist of lecture (I’ll make it interesting, I promise!) about the week’s writing theme and creative writing tips and tricks.
During each session, participants will be provided with a new theme (family, branching points, grief, death, etc). to write 800-1000 words (or 1-2 pages) that week. These themes are crafted with intention, aiding individuals in organizing their memories and narratives in a coherent manner.
Each week’s theme will also include prompts to help you engage with your mortality in a safe way, finding out what a lit-up life looks like to YOU. These prompts will help you explore how death contemplation can be a powerful clarifier for understanding your values and bringing more mindfulness to the present moment.
Grow your creative writing skills and confidence in a safe and nurturing environment. This is NOT a writing critique group; feedback is given to validate and witness, not polish and critique).
Explore the thru-line and themes of your past and discover the lessons they offer for forging ahead with intention.
Gain self-understanding while finding meaning in your past experiences.
Curriculum based off research-backed methodology.
Guided Autobiography helps everyone become a storyteller.
People often say they have nothing “interesting” to say (who decided what interesting was, anyway?) but with the Guided Autobiography (or GAB) framework upon which Write Your Numbered Days is based, you will be guided to uncover stories that were formative in shaping who you are and who you are becoming.
Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a structured approach developed over 30 years ago by esteemed researcher and gerontologist, Dr. James E. Birren. GAB involves delving into your life story with the guidance of a trained facilitator - that’s me!
The primary goal of Guided Autobiography goes beyond mere documentation of personal histories. It seeks to stimulate self-discovery, fortify resilience, and cultivate personal growth by delving into and comprehending one’s life narrative in a deeper and more meaningful way.
Research conducted with post-test assessments of Guided Autobiography (GAB) demonstrates that participants show improvements in self-acceptance, reduced anxiety, increased energy, a more positive outlook, and enhanced connections with others.
Are you ready to document your story, pass on your life lessons, and learn how to live deeper into the moment in our mindlessly-accelerating culture?
If any of this resonates, then this space is for you.
To foster group intimacy, this exclusive cohort is thoughtfully limited to 6 students. If this class is whispering to your soul, save your seat before capacity is reached.
I’d be honored to share this journey with you.
Hello, reader!! Thank you so, so much for being here. <3 If you particularly loved this edition of Full of Life, perhaps you’d consider buying me a quick coffee? Your support makes my heart melt, and lets me know you find my writing worthwhile. I rather like the one-time support option, as it feels more manageable than the monthly financial commitment of a paid subscription.
All that money-stuff aside, being gifted this space in your inbox is a true honor, and I promise I will continue to deliver quality writing.
